What I Have Been Listening to

March 14, 2021

I shared on Instagram recently a few things which have been helping me during this time with one of them being Podcasts, I know, it's nothing original but honestly, as far back as I can remember I have always been fascinated by others life stories, their experiences, lessons learnt and overcoming of hardships either through books, tv chat shows or documentaries, therefore, it only makes sense that Podcasts have become an extension of that and what's even better when you don't have time in the day to sit on the sofa or lay in bed watching Netflix, I can stick my headphones on find an episode which suites my current mood press play and then carry on with the mundane house stuff like washing the dishes and hanging the clothes up, et voilà!

So my lovelies with that being said, I'm sharing below a few of my fave episodes listened to in Feb 2021. Do let me know if you have listened to any of these, how you found them and feel free to share your faves in the comments below 👇

The Emma Guns Show
"Jacqui Ripley is a PR executive, former fashion editor and author who joins me on the podcast to share her feel-good habits, the strategies she uses and recommends to make sure every day is a good day."

Infertile AF
"Today, Ali is talking to L'Oreal, a Chicagoan with a journalism background who has written about her infertility in such publications as Self and Hello Giggles. L'Oreal talks about "being in the messy middle right now" —and how, even though she doesn't know how her story is going to turn out, she wants to share anyway. She discusses how isolating infertility can be, especially in the black community, how having a "plan" rarely works out, her history of fibroids, how infertility has affected her marriage, and how IVF is a full-time job. L'Oreal also explains the shame that black women feel and their hesitation to speak about infertility, how the face of infertility is usually a "thin white woman," and how medical treatment is different, depending on what you look like."

Second Life
"Elaine Welteroth is one of the most inspiring women in the media industry. She was named the youngest EIC at the helm of a major Condé Nast publication before becoming a New York Times best-selling author, award-winning journalist, producer, and television host. Welteroth is also a powerful voice in the movement of change, as she was recently appointed Cultural Ambassador for Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote campaign and now hosts a new podcast Built to Last, which amplifies the stories of Black founders, past and present. On this episode of Second Life, find out how Welteroth continually evolves her career while remaining grounded in who she is."

Second Life
"June Ambrose is one of fashion’s most influential stylists, costumer designers, and image architects and is now the creative director of Puma. Through her extensive years of experience, Ambrose has established a name for herself styling and creating custom pieces for notable clientele, including Jay-Z, Will Smith, Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Lizzo, and more. Therefore, it may come as a surprise that Ambrose began her career at an investment banking firm. On this episode of Second Life, find out how Ambrose made a drastic career pivot, how she managed to get her foot in the door in the music and fashion industries to ultimately define culture through fashion, and everything she learned along the way."

I Weigh With Jameela Jamil
"Comedian, actor, and writer London Hughes joins Jameela to discuss how black women are not celebrated in the UK, her tv presentation with Whoopi Goldberg, her incredible unshakeable self-confidence, their shared experiences with being bullied growing up, sex tips (ice-cream is an aphrodesiac!) and more!
